Google has introduced the Pixel Tag, a device designed to track lost items, at its 'Made by Google 26' event. The device is designed to compete with Apple's AirTag and is available in a color named 'Fog.'

The Pixel Tag is an elongated, slim, oval-shaped device constructed from stainless steel and polycarbonate. It measures 1.1 inches wide, 1.8 inches high, and 0.2 inches deep (46.1 mm x 28.0 mm x 5.4 mm).

To locate items, the tag uses Google's Find Hub network, which reportedly leverages over one billion Android devices worldwide. The device features connectivity via Bluetooth and Ultra Wideband (UWB) for precision finding, though it does not include NFC.

Features and Functionality

The Pixel Tag includes a built-in speaker to assist in locating the device and a button that can be pressed to ring a lost phone. It is compatible with devices running Android 9 or newer. Users can also locate and ring the tag from a Pixel Watch, and the device can be controlled using Gemini via Pixel Buds. Additionally, the tag can be shared with up to 10 people.

The device is equipped with an IP67 rating for water and dust resistance. It can withstand submersion in up to 1 meter (approximately 3.28 feet) of water for up to 30 minutes. It is powered by a user-replaceable CR2032 coin cell battery, which is expected to last for approximately one year. The tag will also send persistent low-battery notifications every two weeks until the battery is depleted.

The Bluetooth Channel Sounding feature on the Pixel Tag requires Android 16 or later and Bluetooth 6.0. The device also features a 'Left Behind' alert to notify users when they have left an item behind.

Pricing and Availability

The Google Pixel Tag is priced at $29 for a single pack and $99 for a four-pack, though some reports list the single unit at $30 and the four-pack at $100. Regarding availability, some sources indicate the tag will be available in the US on November 11, 2026, while others claim preorders start today with shipments on August 20. Availability and pricing for Germany have not yet been determined.

The device weighs approximately 0.4 ounces (about 12g or 11.8g) including the battery. The Pixel Tag was previously discovered under the codenames Grogu, Groguaudio, or GR10 in 2023.
