The Indian government has deployed a national response team following the deaths of 22 children caused by the Chandipura virus.
The virus causes brain inflammation.
Deployment and transmission
The Indian Health Ministry stated that the national response team was deployed to help in the western Indian states of Gujarat and Rajasthan.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), the Chandipura virus is spread by sandflies, mosquitoes, and ticks during the monsoon season.
