The Indian vessel Faize Noore Oliya sank in the Red Sea after being attacked by an explosives-laden boat off the coast of Yemen, Yemen's government-aligned National Resistance Forces announced on Tuesday.
The attack occurred approximately 13 nautical miles south of Al Hudaydah.
Total number of sailors rescued without casualties
All 14 crew members, consisting of 13 Indian sailors and one Yemeni, were rescued in a joint operation conducted by the Yemeni Navy and Coast Guard. The crew members were transferred to the Port of Mokha to receive medical assistance.
Indian Shipping Minister Sarbananda Sonowal stated that the vessel was hit by a projectile near Yemeni waters, causing it to capsize and sink. He described the incident as an 'unprovoked attack on the defenseless mechanized sailing vessel.'
The Indian Foreign Ministry condemned the attack and said its Embassy in Riyadh is monitoring the situation and coordinating with Yemeni authorities.
Maritime incidents near Oman and Hormuz
In a separate incident, a commercial vessel was struck by an unknown projectile overnight off the coast of Oman, near the Strait of Hormuz. The UK Maritime Trade Operations reported the attack occurred approximately 20 nautical miles northeast of Al Khasab, Oman.
Vanguard Tech identified the vessel as the Liberia-flagged bulk carrier Minoan Pioneer. According to Vanguard Tech, a projectile struck the engine room, causing a fire in the accommodation area; the crew is fighting the fire, and one third engineer is reported missing.
Diplomatic developments
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio told reporters at the State Department that talks are taking place between Iran and Oman, noting progress has been made but not finality. He stated the US is 'involved' in the process.
US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent told CNBC that a deal regarding Strait of Hormuz shipping could be reached as early as this week. He added, 'We are in talks with the Iranians, and I think there is a chance we may have a deal today or tomorrow.'
