The European Senior Modern Pentathlon Championships are scheduled to take place in Istanbul, Turkey, from August 3 to August 9. The competition will be held at the Burhan Felek Sports Complex.
This event represents the first time Turkey is hosting the championships in the senior category. Serhat Aydın, the President of the Turkish Modern Pentathlon Federation, said, 'We are proud to host the European Senior Modern Pentathlon Championships for the first time.'
The championships, organized by the Turkish Modern Pentathlon Federation, will include the disciplines of fencing, obstacle course, swimming, and laser run. Officials from the European Modern Pentathlon Confederation and international referees will also be in attendance.
Total participants from 22 countries
The competition features 153 athletes from 22 countries, consisting of 86 men and 67 women.
Turkish National Representatives
The Turkish women's representatives include İlke Özyüksel Mihrioğlu, Sıdal Aslan, Tulya Kesebir, Ebrar Çalışkan, Yaren Kalender, Tuana Özgür, and Zeynep Ay. The Turkish men's team consists of Buğra Ünal, Eren Kıvanç Taşyaran, Muhammed Emir Kurtulan, Jan Demir Vurdum, Arda Meriç, Ali Akaydın, Barış Doğu Çelik, and Mehmet Doruk Özkan.
National pentathlete İlke Özyüksel has recorded several international achievements, including bronze medals at the 2016 European Championships in Bulgaria and in Belarus in 2017. At the 2022 World Championships, she won bronze medals in both the individual and mixed relay events.
Özyüksel also secured a silver medal at the 2023 World Cup Finals and a bronze medal at the 2024 World Cup Finals. Her Olympic results include a fifth-place finish at the Tokyo 2020 Games and sixth place at the Paris 2024 Games.
We will witness the medal struggle of 153 elite athletes from 22 countries.
Aydın also stated that Turkish modern pentathlon has started to become a country with a say in the world.
