The Lufthansa Group intends to equip its entire fleet of approximately 850 aircraft with high-speed internet from the US provider Starlink by 2029. Dieter Vranckx, Chief Commercial Officer of the Lufthansa Group, stated that all aircraft in the group will be equipped with this technology by that date.

The rollout of the Starlink internet service will begin with an Airbus A320neo. The first Lufthansa flight featuring the new system is scheduled for August 19.

Access and Usage Rules

The internet service will be free for all status customers and passengers who create a 'Travel-ID' user account across all travel classes. Mastercard is supporting the project as a sponsor and is already accompanying the previous Flynet portal.

Lufthansa Group Wi-Fi user rules require passengers to wear headphones when playing audio and video content. The policy prohibits voice and video calls and forbids the transmission of live streams.

Rollout Across Subsidiaries

The rollout is being prepared by Swiss, Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, ITA Airways, Edelweiss, Discover Airlines, Air Dolomiti, Lufthansa City Airlines, and Eurowings. The necessary technology will be installed in the aircraft during scheduled maintenance appointments.

Lufthansa did not provide details regarding the volume of the investment required for the fleet-wide upgrade.
