Yemisi Mabry won the bronze medal in the shot put event at the European Athletics Championships. The Olympic shot put champion had previously qualified for the final in Birmingham as the top qualifier.
Mabry achieved a distance of 19.25 meters on her first attempt during the qualification round. The required distance to advance to the shot put final was set at 18.20 meters.
Jessica Schilder from the Netherlands also qualified for the final with a throw of 19.00 meters.
German athletes struggle
German sprinters Gina Lückenkemper and Rebekka Haase missed the sprint final at the championships. In other events, hammer thrower Merlin Hummel delivered a performance.
Reports noted that Hummel was wearing a training jacket and was not so focused during the competition. Long jumper Simon Batz was unable to compete at the event.
