Marc Skinner has stepped down from his position as Manchester United Women's head coach. Manchester United Women stated that Skinner's departure was by mutual agreement.
Skinner, 43, has been in charge of the team for five years. During his tenure, he led Manchester United Women to a Women's FA Cup final victory in 2024 and helped the club reach the Women's Champions League group stages for the first time last year. The team also reached the quarter-finals of the Women's Champions League and finished as runners-up in three domestic cup finals.
The former Birmingham City head coach had raised concerns regarding a lack of investment in the squad and stated that changes would be needed during the close season. Manchester United Women change their recruitment approach this year to target younger players. BBC Sport reported in July that the girls' academy will train at Carrington, Manchester United's main training facility, this season.
Search for replacement
Manchester United Women have not immediately announced a successor. However, sources at Manchester United say the club is advanced in its search for a replacement for Skinner, who had one year remaining on his contract.
WSL season outlook
Manchester United Women are scheduled to open the Women's Super League season against London City Lionesses on 4 September. The Lionesses, who finished fifth last season, have signed two-time Ballon d'Or winner Alexia Putellas. In other league moves, Lyon defender Alice Sombath joined Tottenham.
