According to lore, a priest cursed the 1951 Mayo team after they failed to stop their homecoming parade for a funeral. A book titled 'House of Pain' was written about Mayo's championship drought. The last surviving member of the 1951 team, Paddy Prendergast, died in 2021 at age 95, two weeks after Mayo lost a final.
