Mitsubishi is bringing its first fully electric vehicle to North America in over a decade with the 2027 Eclipse Sportback EV, which is a rebadged next-generation Nissan Leaf. The vehicle will launch across the US and Canada in late summer or early fall 2026, sold through roughly 300 dealer partners in the US.

The Eclipse Sportback EV features its own front and rear fascias, a different lighting signature, sporty alloy wheels, and Triple Diamond badging. It is equipped with a 75 kWh liquid-cooled battery, a native NACS port for Tesla Superchargers, and 150 kW DC fast charging capability from 10% to 80% in about 35 minutes — specifications identical to the 2026 Nissan Leaf. However, a discrepancy exists between sources: one describes a single native NACS port, while another mentions dual charging ports.

Mitsubishi has not announced range or pricing for the Eclipse Sportback EV. For comparison, the 2026 Nissan Leaf offers an EPA range of 303 miles on the base S+ trim and 259 miles on the top Platinum+ trim, with a starting price of $29,990. The Eclipse name revives a model previously used for a sport coupe and later for the Eclipse Cross crossover.
Mitsubishi’s last fully electric vehicle in the US was the i-MiEV, discontinued years ago. The Eclipse Sportback EV marks the brand’s return to the segment, leveraging Alliance partnership with Nissan.
