Newcastle United have signed goalkeeper Lukas Hornicek from Braga. The 24-year-old has signed a five-year contract with the club.

The transfer fee for the goalkeeper is reported as £25.7 million by one source and €30.6 million ($35.26 million) by another.

According to reports, Hornicek, who stands 6ft 6in tall, joined Braga on loan from the Czech club Pardubice in 2019. He reportedly made his senior international debut in May.

During Braga's run to the Europa League semi-finals last season, Hornicek kept seven clean sheets.

Club reactions

Newcastle sporting director Ross Wilson stated that Hornicek's progress in recent years has been remarkable and that the goalkeeper has firmly established himself as one of Europe's top young goalkeepers.
