Qualcomm has announced a new gaming-focused chipset identified as the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 V-series. The chipset carries the model number SM8850-1-AB.

According to reports, the V-series will first be utilized in the Redmi K100 Pro series.

Technical Specifications and Performance

The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 V-series features two Oryon prime cores capable of reaching speeds of 4.6 GHz and six performance cores running at 3.62 GHz. The architecture includes an Adreno GPU.

The chipset includes a Hexagon NPU, an X85 5G modem, and FastConnect 7900 connectivity technologies. It also incorporates the Qualcomm Spectra ISP.

The SM8850-1-AB variant features an Adreno High Performance Memory (HPM) capacity of 12 MB, compared to 18 MB in the standard Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 model.

Reports indicate the V-series supports LPDDR5X memory and UFS 4.1 storage.

Gaming Optimizations and Series Diversity

Both the standard and V-series Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 models utilize Mesh Shading, hardware-accelerated ray tracing, and Unreal Engine 5 optimizations.

Qualcomm provides market diversity within the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 series through various models, including the SM8850-AC, SM8850-1-AD, and a 7-core SM8850-5-AC.
