Jan Riedel, the Minister of Education for Sachsen-Anhalt, has warned that right-wing information bubbles pose risks to democracy and schools. The CDU minister noted that many people in Sachsen-Anhalt are informing themselves primarily through TikTok, right-wing online portals, and tabloid media instead of diverse traditional media sources.

Riedel stated that the AfD is particularly well-represented within these information bubbles. He expressed concern that consensus and compromise are being viewed and despised as weaknesses, whereas he describes them as the 'lubricant of democracy.'

The minister warned that an educational problem will arise if citizens isolate themselves from democratic debate by only consuming information that confirms existing views. He also noted that children are spreading right-wing extremist slogans and that teachers are facing increased pressure from parents when intervening.

Polling and Digital Presence

In a recent representative Infratest-dimap poll, the AfD stood at 41 percent, while the CDU stood at 24 percent. The state election in Sachsen-Anhalt is scheduled for September 6.
