Samsung will begin deploying HDR10+ Advanced on Amazon's Prime Video starting this month. The format will first be available on Samsung's 2026 TV models for supported movies and shows on the streaming platform.
Samsung, which co-developed the HDR10+ image quality format, unveiled HDR10+ Advanced last November. The technology was also demonstrated on the company's latest TVs at CES in January.
Technical features and brightness
Enhanced Overall Brightness is a primary feature of the new format. Samsung says this feature utilizes extended statistical metadata to provide brighter and more precise HDR across the full tonal range.
The HDR10+ Advanced tone mapping can adjust for specific areas of the screen rather than applying a single setting to the entire frame. This includes AI-powered tone mapping designed to assist viewers in seeing shadow details and delivering heightened brightness during sports and action movies.
Metadata tags within the format can cover genres including animation, news, movies, sports, or general content, as well as details regarding perspective, lighting, or motion.
Motion processing and content
The format also includes Intelligent Motion Smoothing. Samsung claims this feature uses scene-by-scene metadata to allow compatible displays to dynamically adjust motion processing.
While Samsung's press release did not specify the quantity of supported titles or which exact titles will launch with support, a press image from the company showed the Amazon series Ride or Die.
HDR10+ Advanced features are similar to Dolby Vision 2, though Samsung does not pay Dolby's fee for the branding. While Hisense, Philips, and TCL have stated their new TVs will support Dolby Vision 2, Peacock and Canal+ are also confirmed for Dolby Vision 2 content.
