Sony has begun sending invitations to test a new PlayStation 5 system software update, according to a report on the ResetEra forums.
In an email regarding the beta update, Sony stated that the 'Enhance PSSR Image Quality' feature is now enabled by default. The email noted that once the system software is updated, this setting will be turned on automatically.
The PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) upscaler is a feature of the PlayStation 5 Pro. The PSSR 2.0 version is an enhanced iteration of this AI-powered technology designed to improve gaming on the console.
Sony's beta email stated that when enabled, the enhanced PSSR image quality will be applied to games supporting the previous version of the upscaler to provide a sharper and clearer visual experience. Some games that have not been updated still only support the first version of the PSSR upscaler.
System performance and features
The new PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 5 Pro beta system software update includes improvements to system software performance and stability.
The 'Enhance PSSR Image Quality' toggle is expected to be deprecated once future versions of the upscaler are released. An official release date for the stable version of the beta update has not yet been confirmed.
