Spotify has introduced a new feature called "User Notes," which allows users to add personal captions to individual songs within playlists. The feature became available on Thursday, according to the company.
User Notes is designed to let users note why a track was added to a playlist or when they first discovered it. Spotify says the feature helps personalize playlists and differentiate the service from rivals such as Apple Music and YouTube Music.
To add a note, users navigate to a playlist, tap the three-dot menu next to a song, and select "Add note." The note is saved and visible to anyone who can view the playlist, with the user's name linking to their profile. The feature is available to users aged 16 and older on both free and premium plans in select markets.
Spotify has framed User Notes as a throwback to mixtapes or mix CDs from the past, aiming to bring a similar personal touch to digital streaming. On the same day, the company also debuted a new Running Mode, available to premium users in select countries, Spotify said.
