Swiss alpine skier Lara Gut-Behrami is retiring from active competition. The 35-year-old athlete announced her decision on Wednesday, August 5, according to the Swiss Federation.
The retirement follows a serious injury to Gut-Behrami's left knee in November, which involved a meniscus lesion and a fracture of two ligaments.
Career achievements and statistics
Gut-Behrami has competed in 18 seasons of alpine skiing. Throughout her career, she achieved 101 World Cup podiums, which included 48 victories.
Total World Cup victories
Her 48 World Cup wins is one fewer than the total achieved by her Swiss compatriot Vreni Schneider. Gut-Behrami also won two overall World Cup crystal globes in 2016 and 2024.
Her major championship record includes nine World Championship medals and three Olympic medals: one gold in super-G in 2022 and two bronze medals in 2014 and 2022.
