Three men from Missouri have been charged in connection with an alleged August 2024 plot to kidnap a Bitcoin holder and steal his holdings.

According to a Tuesday press release from the US Attorney’s Office, Sedric Louis, John Davis, and Martel Williams were allegedly hired to kidnap a Bitcoin holder and force the transfer of cryptocurrency to accounts controlled by organizers.

The defendants allegedly traveled from St. Louis, Missouri, to Connecticut, where they rented vehicles and obtained air rifles to stake out the victim.

After staking out the target for two days, the group allegedly abandoned the plan due to fear of being caught on home security cameras. Shortly afterward, a different crew arrived from Florida to carry out the plan.

Legal proceedings and charges

The three men were charged with conspiracy to interfere with commerce by robbery under the Hobbs Act, a charge that carries a maximum sentence of 20 years. All three defendants have pleaded not guilty.

Louis and Davis have been detained since their arrest on June 25, 2026, while Williams was released on bond.
