In August 2024, three men from Missouri were charged in connection with an alleged plot to kidnap a Bitcoin holder to steal his holdings. According to a press release from the US Attorney’s Office, Sedric Louis, John Davis, and Martel Williams were allegedly hired to kidnap the victim and force the transfer of cryptocurrency to accounts controlled by the organizers.
The defendants reportedly traveled from Missouri to Connecticut to carry out the kidnapping and force the cryptocurrency transfer, but ultimately abandoned the plan.
