Volta Infra, a seven-month-old AI infrastructure startup, has secured a $10 billion contract to provide cloud-computing services in Europe alongside Bitdeer Technologies. The six-year agreement covers computing capacity at a data center operated by Bitdeer in Norway, featuring 133 megawatts of capacity powered by Nvidia's Vera Rubin chips.
Volta Infra valuation
The company is valued at $2.4 billion. Volta, which is part of Nvidia's Cloud Partner program, stated that the Norway project is the first in a development pipeline exceeding one gigawatt of near-term power capacity across North America and Europe.
Bloomberg News reported that the Nvidia-backed Volta's $10 billion cloud contract is with Anthropic, citing people familiar with the matter. Reuters has not been able to independently verify this report. Anthropic declined to comment on the reported deal.
AI Infrastructure and Financing
In addition to the cloud contract, Volta Infra launched a $5 billion AI infrastructure program with asset manager Azora to finance AI 'factories'. The startup previously raised $300 million in seed and Series A financing, with funding rounds led by Azora, Andreessen Horowitz, Altimeter, and Nvidia, according to Bloomberg and Volta.
Anthropic has sought to aggressively expand its compute capacity over the last several months and recently announced new compute deals with companies including SpaceX and Amazon. The company has signed a series of computing and investment agreements with various firms, such as Microsoft, Nvidia, Alphabet, and Amazon.com.
