Zak Penn, the screenwriter for the film Ready Player One, has confirmed he is currently working on the script for Ready Player Two. Penn stated, “I am working on it.”
The film project was originally announced by Warner Bros. in July 2020. It is set to be based on the 2020 novel of the same name by Ernest Cline.

While Steven Spielberg will remain as a main producer, he will not direct the sequel. Spielberg confirmed in March 2024 that he would not return to the director's chair for this project.
