Meta Platforms CEO Mark Zuckerberg told the Financial Times that the US government should not block Chinese artificial intelligence models to gain an edge in the AI race.
Zuckerberg stated that banning cutting-edge Chinese AI would not be an effective solution. He suggested that US companies should systematically identify bottlenecks and roadblocks to better compete with Chinese AI firms.
Warned against 'regulatory capture' of American rules on the technology
These comments come as the Trump administration has unveiled bans targeting imports of new Chinese robots and power inverters. The measures aim to protect the US AI buildout and reshore industries.
The US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) announced that new humanoid and quadruped robots produced outside the US will generally not be able to receive approval for import and sale in the US market due to national security risks.
Allegations against Moonshot AI
Beijing-based Moonshot AI's recently released Kimi K3 model has drawn attention for its coding capabilities. Some officials from the US administration of President Donald Trump claim to have evidence that the company secretly used models from US competitors to train its Kimi K3 model.
Moonshot AI has denied allegations that it used US models for training.
US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent warned that Chinese companies could face financial sanctions or placement on the US Commerce Department's Entity List if they engage in intellectual property theft.
