The US federal government repealed several EPA policies regarding stop-start technology credits.
In February 2026, the US federal government repealed several EPA policies, which included the credits previously provided to automakers for the installation of stop-start technology. This technology is intended to reduce emissions during idling by turning off the engine when a vehicle comes to a complete stop.
As a result of these changes, the 2027 Ram 1500 non-hybrid 5.7-liter Hemi V8 will lack the automatic stop-start feature. According to a Ram spokesperson, the company will begin phasing out the 5.7-liter Hemi V8 eTorque early in the 2027 model year, replacing it with a non-hybridized version of the 5.7-liter Hemi V8.
