A suspicious object found in the track bed south of Treuchtlingen station in Franconia, Germany, around 8:30 AM turned out not to be an explosive device. Police gave the all-clear after investigating the suspected explosive device, and investigators assume the object was intentionally placed as a decoy.
A bomb disposal team from the German Federal Police (Bundespolizei) X-rayed the object in the morning. During a second investigation, the object was lifted using a robot. Some immediately affected buildings were evacuated as a precaution, and a wide area around the find was cordoned off, with restrictions for pedestrians and residents.

Train traffic at Treuchtlingen came to a complete standstill. Local regional services RB 16, RE 16 and RE 60 were affected, and long-distance trains were rerouted via Ingolstadt. ICE connections between Munich and Nuremberg were not affected.
Treuchtlingen, a town of about 13,000 inhabitants, saw the disruption during the incident.
Michael Konrad of the Middle Franconia (Mittelfranken) Police Headquarters said the object did not look like an everyday item.
The object looks specially made to create the appearance of an explosive device.
A local police spokesperson stated that the criminal police investigations at the tracks would likely take some time.
