Bank of America has announced its intention to acquire MDSec Consulting Ltd., an information security firm based in Macclesfield, England. The acquisition is expected to close in the fourth quarter of 2026, pending regulatory approval. No deal value was disclosed.
MDSec specializes in security-related consultancy services and employs around 65 cybersecurity professionals. The firm is headquartered in Macclesfield.
Strategic Fit with Existing Operations
Bank of America already maintains a significant presence in the North of England, with over 1,400 employees in nearby Chester, where one of the bank’s cyber threat operations centers is located.
Rising Cybersecurity Threats
Companies globally are facing a surge in AI-driven cyberattacks and ransomware, which can steal sensitive data and disrupt operations. In response, the White House earlier this month announced it is launching a coordination group that brings together AI developers and critical infrastructure operators to share information on vulnerabilities identified by advanced AI systems and coordinate responses.
Bank of America, the second-largest U.S. lender by assets, announced the acquisition on July 30.
