Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund (PIF) and a group of investors have received EU approval for their $55 billion acquisition of video game developer Electronic Arts under the European Union's subsidy rules.
Electronic Arts stated in a regulatory filing on Thursday that the deal secured approval under EU merger rules last week and that it had received all regulatory approvals as of July 30.
Electronic Arts expects to close the acquisition deal on August 4.
The acquisition is part of Saudi Arabia's efforts to become a global hub for games and sports, underscoring a diversification from oil into sectors including infrastructure, tourism, sports, and gaming.
