Leading construction and real estate companies in Japan are reducing working hours due to extreme heat, according to Kyodo News.
One construction company reportedly rescheduled on-site working hours from 08:00–17:00 to 07:00–13:00 for July and August. According to one source, this shift to earlier hours was made because temperatures increase in the later hours of the day.
Company officials said the decision to shorten working hours was made to reduce the risk of heatstroke. They stated that if project schedule delays are anticipated, working hours would be extended during cooler times of the day.
Another company installed modular prefabricated toilet units equipped with ventilation and cooling systems at its construction sites.
