Following the warning, shares in the company tumbled 10% on Wednesday morning. While the chain cited general cost pressures, it specifically highlighted that sales were worse than expected despite the ongoing World Cup. Furthermore, chairman Tim Martin confirmed that the company's full-year earnings, due in October, will officially fall short of market forecasts.
