Sony Group has submitted a proposal to acquire Tamron Co, a Japanese manufacturer of camera lenses.
The electronics company’s offer is non-binding and outlines a series of transactions intended to make Tamron a wholly owned subsidiary of Sony.
In response to the proposal, Tamron has established a special committee. The body will review various options regarding the acquisition offer.
Following the acquisition proposal, Tamron shares surged and hit the daily limit on the Tokyo stock exchange, while Sony's shares declined by 0.3%. A Sony spokesperson stated the deal aims to bolster its imaging business, though the specific financial terms of the offer remain undisclosed. Additionally, current market data reveals Sony already holds a 14.7% stake in Tamron, while Singapore-based Effissimo Capital remains the largest shareholder with a 17.4% holding.
