Turkey's tourism revenue in the second quarter of 2026 totaled 15,865,339,000 USD, representing a 2.6% decrease compared to the same period of the previous year, according to the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK).

Of this total, revenue from visitors in Turkey amounted to 15,655,868,000 USD, while revenue from transfer travelers reached 209,471,000 USD.

The number of visitors departing from Turkey in the second quarter of 2026 fell by 5.1% year-on-year to 15,581,014 people. Turkish citizens residing abroad made up 16.2% of these departing visitors, totaling 2,527,687 people.

Expenditure patterns and visitor motivations

Visitors staying in Turkey had an average nightly expenditure of 113 USD during the second quarter, whereas the average nightly expenditure for Turkish citizens residing abroad was 79 USD.

Total expenditures by visitors in Turkey consisted of 10,933,868,000 USD in personal expenses and 4,722,000,000 USD in package tour expenses.

Package tours accounted for 30.2% of tourism revenue, with food and beverage at 21%, international transportation at 12.4%, and accommodation at 11.3%. Compared to the same period of the previous year, package tour expenditures declined by 5.5% and international transportation expenditures fell by 6.1%. Conversely, accommodation expenditures increased by 11.7% and food and beverage expenditures rose by 5.2%.

Travel motives for visitors to Turkey included travel, entertainment, sporting, and cultural activities at 71.3%, visiting relatives and friends at 16.6%, and shopping at 6%. For Turkish citizens residing abroad, 60.3% visited Turkey primarily to visit relatives and friends.

Outbound tourism and six-month totals

The number of Turkish citizens visiting abroad increased by 16.5% year-on-year to 3,434,172 people in the second quarter of 2026. Tourism expenditure for these trips rose by 7.4% to 2,962,898,000 USD.

For the first six months of 2026, Turkey's tourism revenue decreased by 0.1% to 25,746,177,000 USD. During this period, the number of visitors to Turkey fell by 2.7% to 24,839,014, while the average expenditure per visitor increased by 2.5% to 1,020 USD. The average nightly expenditure for the first half of the year was 108 USD.

In the first six months of 2026, the number of Turkish citizens visiting abroad rose by 14.9% to 6,370,450, while their total tourism expenditure decreased by 0.4% to 5,187,501,000 USD. The average per capita expenditure for these citizens visiting abroad decreased by 13.3% to 814 USD.
