Consumer confidence in the UK jumped in July by its biggest margin for nearly three years, according to a survey conducted by data company GfK.

The survey was conducted in the first half of July, before the new prime minister took office and ahead of the latest escalation in the US-Iran conflict.

The prospect of Andy Burnham becoming prime minister became almost certain, but the survey was conducted before the actual new prime minister took office.

UK businesses and consumers are more positive, but the boost may not last.
