The number of available job openings in the US fell to 7.36 million in June from 7.54 million in May, according to US Bureau of Labor Statistics data.

The June figure of 7,359,000 was below the market expectation of 7,440,000. In May, the number of US job openings was recorded as 7,537,000.

The US labor market appears to have lost some momentum after a burst of new job openings and hiring in the spring.

Sectoral shifts and hiring trends

In June, US job openings increased in the transportation, storage, utilities, and federal public sectors. Conversely, openings decreased in the wholesale trade, non-durable goods manufacturing, and mining sectors.
