Honda has signed David Alonso to a multi-year factory MotoGP contract for the 2027 season. The agreement secures the services of the 20-year-old rider, though the manufacturer has not yet finalized which specific team he will race for.
Alonso is currently in his second season in Moto2, where he sits fourth overall in the 2026 title hunt. He claimed his maiden win in the intermediate class at the 2025 Hungarian Grand Prix. Across his time in Moto3 and Moto2, he has accumulated 20 wins, 30 podiums, and nine pole positions.
Sources indicate that the move to Honda was agreed upon several months before the official announcement.
Factory line-up uncertainty continues
Honda’s factory team remains the only outfit on the grid that has not announced its complete 2027 rider line-up. The situation involves ongoing decisions regarding Fabio Quartararo and Diogo Moreira, with reports differing on the status of their arrangements.
Some sources state that the announcement of Quartararo joining the factory team is on hold due to unresolved decisions about Alonso and Moreira. Other reports imply that Quartararo’s move is progressing, noting that his crew chief has already been assigned.
Quartararo’s potential move to the factory team was first reported before pre-season testing began. Meanwhile, Diogo Moreira is in his debut MotoGP season with LCR. He has finished all but two grands prix in the points, with a best result of sixth at the Hungarian Grand Prix. Moreira currently sits 16th in the standings at the summer break.
Disputed reports regarding crew chief assignments for 2027 list Cristian Pupulin with Quartararo, Bruno Madrid with Moreira, and Santiago Hernandez with Alonso. However, other sources indicate that team placements for Quartararo and Alonso are still undecided, which would impact such staffing decisions.
In other rider movements for 2027, Dani Holgado will move to MotoGP with Gresini Ducati, and Maximo Quiles will step up to Moto2 with the Aspar squad.
